King Abdulaziz Port sets a new throughput record

King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam has set a new container throughput record in August 2022.
The port handled 199,609 TEU in August, surpassing its previous record set in June 2022 by 11,031 TEU.
Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said the performance came as the port is continuously boosting productivity and strengthening operational and logistical capabilities through developmental achievements.
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is one of the main logistic hubs on the Arabian Gulf, facilitating trade in the Kingdom’s Eastern and Central Regions.
MAWANI is reportedly working on enhancing the port’s competitivity through new infrastructure, increased capacity, and enhanced operational efficiency.
The port has 43 fully equipped berths that can accommodate giant vessels weighing up to 105 million tons, as well as modern cargo handling equipment, a full-scale container terminal, two general cargo terminals, and a wide range of supporting terminals.
In July, Saudi Global Ports (SGP), a subsidiary of PSA International, and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) signed an agreement to roll out three new quay cranes at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
The agreement follows the commercial concession signed MAWANI worth SAR 7 billion ($1.8 billion) to modernise King Abdulaziz Port into a competitive and sustainable global container hub.
