Schedule reliability climbs in August, Maersk still leading

Global schedule reliability continues its upward trend, according to the latest analysis from Sea-Intelligence.

In its latest Global Liner Performance (GLP), Sea-Intelligence recorded the largest month-on-month (M/M) increase in 2022 of 5.8 percentage points, reaching 46.2 per cent in August.

The average delay for late vessel arrivals has been dropping sharply so far this year, tapering off a little in the past few months, CEO Alan Murphy wrote.

In August 2022, average delay improved sharply once again, dropping by -0.57 days M/M to 5.86 days.

This is now the first time that average delay has dropped below the six-day mark since April 2021.

Another 6 carriers recorded schedule reliability of over 40 per cent, 5 recorded schedule reliability of 30 per cent to 40 per cent, while Yang Ming recorded the lowest schedule reliability of 29.8 per cent.

In August 2022, a lot of the carriers were very close to each other in terms of schedule reliability, with 10 carriers within 7 percentage points of each other. 12 of the top-14 carriers recorded a M/M improvement, while all 14 recorded a year-on-year improvement, with 11 of those carriers recording double-digit improvements, and 3 recording improvements of over 20 percentage points.

Last month, the firm wrote that major shipping lines have recorded historic profits for a combined EBIT of $41.6 billion in the second quarter of this year, as trends show gradual decline in shipping rates.
