Porto Itapoá welcomes widest ship in 13 years

Porto Itapoá has received the widest vessel to dock at its terminal in almost 13 years of operation after welcoming the CMA CGM Búzios ship.

The vessel has a length of 336 metres and a beam width of 51 metres.

The manoeuvre took place during the morning and served as an experimental basis for approval by the Brazilian Navy for this navigation parameter in Babitonga Bay.

With the approval, the access channel of Babitonga Bay would be authorised to receive vessels of this size, making its port complex one of the only ones with this capacity throughout Brazil.

The ship from the CMA CGM Group, a global player in maritime, land and air solutions, sails under the Maltese flag and already operates in the Asia South America East Coast 2 (SEAS2) service.

“The success of the operation demonstrates the capacity of our bay to receive large vessels safely and efficiently,” said Porto Itapoá’s Director of Operations, Technology, and Environment, Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr.

Earlier this year, Porto Itapoá added ZIM Integrated Shipping Services (ZIM) ZGT to its service offerings.

More recently, Porto Itapoá obtained fourth place in the the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ)’s rankings, making it Brazil’s private container terminal with the biggest increase in 2023 compared to 2022.
